An Study on Anti-Poverty & Income Inequality Effectiveness of Income Transfer: Focusing on the Single & Spousal Elderly Households

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate an anti-poverty effectiveness of private¡¤public income transfer among the single & spousal elderly households. The subject were 2,602 single & spousal elderly households who were selected in the Fouth(2011) Korean Retirement & Income Study. The major findings were as follows: First, private income transfer, in case of single elderly households reduced in some degree of absolute poverty(9.7%p) & relative poverty(3.2%p) rate and GE(0) Index(0.12794) & Gini Coefficient(0.04172), but in case of spousal elderly households reduced in some degree of absolute poverty(3.7%p) & relative poverty(1.6%p) rate and increase GE(0) Index(0.09708) & Gini Coefficient(0.03930). Second, public income transfer, in case of single elderly households reduced in some degree of absolute poverty(14.6%p) & relative poverty(6.6%p) rate and GE(0) Index (0.14896) & Gini Coefficient(0.04404), but in case of spousal elderly households reduced in some degree of absolute poverty(8.2%p) & relative poverty(6.2%p) rate and increase GE(0) Index(0.04895) & Gini Coefficient(0.03240). Finally, it is required that korean government has to reinforce social security network including pubic pension as basic pension for the elderly and also korean government and society has to rebuild more elderly friendly community in order to income transfers can be worked more effectively.
